Cycling - Lincolnshire Fens

The minor roads surrounding the site radiate to different areas of the fens, and therefore offer the cyclist many cycle routes.

Some examples of planned cycle routes starting from Boston Market place.

1. Route 1 - Cycling via Antons Gowt, Gipsey Bridge, Langrick and Brothertoft

Example - This route takes the rider out into the hedge less fenland where herons hunt, and waterfowl secrete their nests in springtime. From the Market Place wheel your bike down Strait Bargate, the pedestrianised area, then cycle along Wide Bargate. Carry on to the roundabout turning left into B1183 Horncastle Road. Follow this road, with the Maud Foster Drain on your right, for just over half-a-mile. After the cemetery turn left into Redcap Lane. Cross the railway line and at the next junction turn right into Green Lane. At the first T junction turn right into Tattershall Road and at the next T junction turn left, still Tattershall Road, signposted Antons Gowt.

Following the signs to Antons Gowt turn left at the next T junction at Frith Bank and carry on, passing the Oak Tree Inn and Restaurant on your right, along Meer Booth Road. Take the next right into Leagate Road with a sign warning of weak bridge ahead. After the road crosses the bridge it swings left along Castle Dyke Bank for a mile with the dyke on your left. At Gipsey Bridge follow signs left to Langrick, crossing the bridge on the B1184. Carry on through Langrick to a T junction, turning left onto the B1192 for Langrick Bridge. In Langrick Bridge the Ferry Boat Inn and Langrick Cafe are on your left before the bridge over the River Witham which is very narrow and has traffic lights with a rather short fuse! It is safest to use the footpath on the left to cross the bridge.

Carry on this road through Brothertoft and take the first left turn signposted Boston, turning right in 1.3 miles at the first crossroads. In 0.7 miles turn left and follow the North Forty Foot Drain for just over a mile. At the first junction in about a mile bear right and at the T junction by the Hessle Pear turn right. Keep straight ahead onto the A1137 Brothertoft Road at the next junction then left onto the A1121 Sleaford Road at the T junction. Take the second exit at the first mini roundabout, carry on over the railway and take the first exit on the second roundabout into West Street. Follow the one-way system as it bears left and crosses Town Bridge back into the Market Place.
